Skewness describes the asymmetry of a distribution. Here's a quick guide to distinguish left-skewed (negative) and right-skewed (positive) distributions:
Right-Skewed Distribution (Positive Skewness)
-
Tail is on the right side.
-
Most data is concentrated on the left (lower values).
-
Mean > Median > Mode.
Left-Skewed Distribution (Negative Skewness)
-
Tail is on the left side.
-
Most data is concentrated on the right (higher values).
-
Mean < Median < Mode.
